Our Council

Faith Community Church is governed by a council made up of the lead pastor, four elected elders and three elected deacons.  Videos, definitions, and Biblical rationale for the role of Elder and Deacon are located on the Christian Reformed Church website.

Gerrit Damsteegt | Elder & COuncil Chair

Gerrit is an Elder and the chair of Church Council. He lives with his wife Susan and four children in North Salem where they operate an dairy farm. He has been a member of Faith Community Church for over 30 years. He is grateful to be part of this congregation and the community as a whole.

Andy bokma | Elder

Andy John Bokma, 58, married only 31 years to Constance, loved by God forever, took Him up on His offer at 18 and l know He is looking for you. A kayak, good book, backpack and camera are essential tools for exploring life. Really like Job 38 for the sense of the bigness of God. Are you coming yet?

donald bokma | Elder

Donald is married to his wife Evelyn for over 36 years. Together they have five children, four sons and one daughter.  Four of them are married and the last will be married in June 2019.  They are blessed to have 12 grandchildren with one more on the way. God is good! Donald has been dairy farming his whole life. He now dairy farms along side his brother, his sons and son in law. He always has time for Tim Hortons coffee, playing hockey, his family and riding his motorcycle all over the beautiful province of Nova Scotia. 

Donald is glad to serve an awesome God. Isaiah 40:28-31 is encouraging to know that the Lord gives us all we stand in need of and never lets us down. 

pam taylor | Elder

Pam was born August 13, 1953 and is a retired wife (Doug), mother of Alanna, Allison and Evan and proud grandmother of Erik, Nate, Keylor, Lenna, Brody, Lexi and Cooper. Life is good and God has richly blessed her with a wonderful family.

Brought up in a loving Christian family, she made my commitment to the Lord when she was 9.  Through her teenage years, she sang with the Good News Singers, travelling all over the Maritimes to churches spreading God’s love through song.

Her desire is to show people God loves them and cares for them and one way is through my music.

The scriptures that inspire me through my Christian growth are found in the book of Philippians.  There are many verses that help me each day but I keep going back to Philippians 4:13 which says: “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”

sandra mcquillan | Deacon

Humbled to serve as a FCC deacon, happily married to Ed (coming up to 30 years); so blessed with two amazing daughters Andrea and Marlee; and of course our FCC church family who are so welcoming and faithful. Still enjoying a 30 plus year career in healthcare. I especially enjoy times shared with the communities where we live (live nativity, Christmas banquet, vacation bible camp etc.) these times are so encouraging.

My inspirational place is the back deck of our home the view is a daily reminder of God’s handy work; followed closely by the peace and tranquility of the beach (ocean) and waterfalls. Always up lifted by my favorite hymn “Thank you Lord”. Having served with GEMS girls club Micah 6:8 - ”And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” will always be in my heart.

ann tennapel | Deacon

Ann Louise TenNapel, 55, is wife of Henry, mother of Jonathan, Adrianna, Lydia and mother-in-law to Steven. She is an employee of Eastern Dairy Services.  She is enjoys walking, hiking, travelling, reading, singing in community choir and a good cup of coffee!  She loves for people to know about the love and hope we have in Jesus and to encourage each other in this journey of faith.

Her favourite Bible verse is: Lamentations. 3:21-21 (NIV) "Yet this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

brandon verboom | Deacon

Brandon, 25, is a husband (of Renae) and works for the government. He tries hard to connect with people of all ages, but has a particular desire to bring youth closer to God while also working on his personal relationship. He joined Faith Community Church in 2016 after attending John Calvin CRC in Truro for the previous 24 years. He is a volunteer firefighter, works as a youth leader within the church, while also serving as a Deacon on church council until 2021. Brandon loves to explore Nova Scotia and strongly believes in experiencing God's glory first hand by spending time with him in nature. 

Favorite verse: Isiah 40:28 "Don't you know anything? Haven't you been listening? God doesn't come and go. God lasts. He's Creator of all you can see or imagine. He doesn't get tired out, doesn't pause to catch his breath. And he knows everything, inside and out."
